CHALLENGES TO FARMING:
-Farming industry is trying to build without proper support
-Lack of full time farmers that can come together to create a strong farming community, which will in turn create the strong presence needed for change
-Lack of a composting facility
-Lack of a dedicated (non residential) island green house that the farmers can count on for seedlings they need, when they need them
-Lack of communication with D of A, without a weekly, monthly and yearly plan to visit farms and see how they are functioning, the proper assistance will not happen
-Water. There can be no industry without water.
-Alternative energy investments need to be made for a sustainable farming future
-No subsidized labor for farming. Most farms are on an incline which requires more labor than flat land farming. Labor is too expensive for the Virgin Island farmer and this keeps production and yields low.
